Umm.... ahh... *GULP* On a serious note some culling should definitely happen if its that bad in residential areas. With that, my first thought was for about a second "if dad was armed..." but then we run into the issue of shooting in a residential area and being accurate and trained enough to make that shot without collateral damage. I myself am proficient with firearms but thinking about it, no where near where I would feel safe trying to take that shot. Myself included here, I feel many gun owners are probably at that level as well, good and proficient and safe with guns - but not trained for this kind of situation. I need to ponder this some more, and need to look into defensive firearm training.
When I lived in rural Bastrop County, Texas, we had a couple of people lose small dogs to coyotes that would just run out of the woods and grab their lap dog off the end of a leash and then run off. Of course, we had some issues with wild hogs as well. I had a fox show up in my yard for a while one spring; I surmised she was going for the cat food we left out for the semi-feral cats we had in the area.
They need one of these:Stacked up against 11 coyotes, herd dog kills 8 to save sheep in Decatur neighborhood. Looks like Great Pyrenes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8wGMDtT-WA
How useless do you think that father felt when he "chased" that coyote with a 2"x4"? Protip: Dude--this would be the time to purchase yourself a shotgun, a rifle and a pistol. If your wife gives you sh!t (I doubt it though) about it, ask her what she'll do when two coyotes decide to take the baby away.
Family in Dublin (Columbus) Ohio had a coyote stalk their girl while playing in the front yard. Just about to close and their Anatolian comes running and knocks the coyote flying. Yeah that dog just earned his retirement. Steve S6
I saw a coyote earlier this week during my morning walk, at about 5:30 a.m., here in densely populated Saint Petersburg, FL. He skedaddled for the woods when he spotted me coming down the trail at about 100 yards distance. Explains why I’ve stopped seeing rabbits in the AO.
I think we should share the planet with a lot of dead coyotes.

Trying to work the "Maybe the dingoes ate your baby" line here...
ReplyDeleteCoyotes have been known to come to a crying baby. Might need to add this sound to my e-caller.
ReplyDeleteI hate Coyotes. Not as much as Monkey's, but they still suck.
ReplyDeleteI live on a State Park in S.E. Pa. We now have Coyotes and Bobcats from what I hear. I'd love to see a Bobcat and I'd love to shoot a Coyote.
