The Metropolitan Water District has declared a drought emergency for all of Southern California after officials announced that conditions on the Colorado River, the Southland’s primary water supply, are dire and getting worse.
Mandatory water restrictions could be implemented as early as next year for an estimated 19 million residents.
A quick perusal of a map shows that southern California is desert. Only idiots (or Arabs) plant a large city in the desert.
ReplyDeleteArabs do it because (1) it's what they've got where they're at and (2) they've got a shit-ton of money coming in every month.
DeleteQuit sending billions of gallons of water down the Sacramento river to 'protect the delta smelt' and we will talk. Otherwise? Start building desalination plants, suckers.
ReplyDeleteRules, of course, that will not apply to the glitterati...
ReplyDeleteThe a holes in Sacramento will force the farmers to fallow their land and the reservoirs of Northern CA will drain even further to keep the golf courses of Southern CA green. That is where the votes are. Unless we get one hell of a storm wave in the next three months, the lake down the road from me will be a mud hole. Haven't been able to put the boat in for 2 months now.
ReplyDeleteBoy Oh Boy. Whenever things are just peachy keen someone comes along and throws cold water on it.
ReplyDeleteFeel good story of the day. Watching California die a death of a thousand cuts just warms my heart. Now when is that earthquake due? We have been promised a game ending big one since before I was born.
ReplyDeleteStop diverting Colorado River water out of its basin. The Colorado is heavily oversubscribed, from its headwaters to the sea--the river is barely a trickle when it reaches the Gulf of Baja. No wonder desertification is increasing west of the Divide.

They bottle tap water, ship it with diesel trucks, warehouse it, ship it again, and sell it for 10,000 % profit.
Ahahhahahahahahahaha
It's clown world.

And how much has Las Vegas grown in the past 25 years? California needs to loose two thirds of its population to balance out the water. It is a hard lesson but you don't build where there is not a sustainable water source.
ReplyDeleteA lesson as old as civilization and settlements, but apparently some simply do not learn.
DeleteThe colorado has had the same basic flow rate for years, with the usual variations. What has changed is the amount of water used, and that is not being offset by water gained elsewhere. Cali is killing itself.
ReplyDeleteLawns and pools first -right?
ReplyDeleteBeen watching this for months, the schadenfrued is going to be delicious, the pain for the good people disheartening.
