I can't wait to see how this plays out

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol captain in the Sutter-Yuba area was found dead in the state of Tennessee, officials said Tuesday. Her death comes months after her husband's shooting death. A Napa man recently arrested at Sacramento International Airport has been charged with the husband's murder.

The Clay County sheriff in Tennessee told KCRA 3 that Julie Harding, 49, was found dead Saturday morning in the county with a gunshot wound and that her death investigation was handed over to the state.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Ring camera footage shows a California Highway Patrol captain, whose death is being investigated along with the murder of her husband, stealing his dog from the Tennessee home of his girlfriend.

Julie Harding, the CHP Yuba-Sutter commander, was found dead Saturday in her Tennessee home, two days after both she and the man accused of killing her husband, Michael Harding, were arrested for separate cases. The Murfreesboro Police Department said Julie was arrested for stalking and burglarizing the home of Michael's girlfriend.

  1. Well, you now know everything we here in NorCal know about this case. They're playing this one pretty close to the vest, as you would imagine they would considering who she is/was.

One thing I might be able to add. One of her deceased husband's best friends said he didn't think this was a case of murder for hire, because paraphrasing, "If she wanted him dead she would have done it herself. She was a badass".

Like you say, I can't wait to see how this plays out too.

  2. Is it the water in California. They are almost as nutty as those guys in Florida.

  4. That is one f'd up story. The people involved and the incidents must have investigators going WTF and AYFKM and a whole lot of other things. So KY and TN pretty much said, "Hey, California. Got a present for you."

  5. No mention of where the dog is. Probably the only one in this cluster that wasn't doing something wrong. Second, must be nice pay if a CHP Captain can afford property halfway across the country along with the money and time to be there.

    1. 1994, with 34 (thirty-four) years driving a desk, my buddy 'Greg' retired as a major from California Highway Patrol.
At that time, his monthly walk-away was us$9,400.
A quarter-century later, I imagine that would be more.

  6. Calpers retirement. 3% at 30. Survive for 30 years, get 90% of your pay. Guessing 25-300k per year. That is 25k a month. So. I guess that is nice pay? In retirement?

    1. Pension is determined by the average of earnings over one's last three years of full employment. In Julie's case that would be $206,000, 90% of which is $185,400. That would mean a monthly pension of $15,400 per month. And if you retire on a disability pension, which many CHP people do, that money can be tax free.

The people rolling in dough after retirement are L.A. County firefighters. They make everybody else look like poverty cases.

In a just world, these people would be charged with RICO violations.
