Many, if not most of you, remember her from her blog The Lonely Libertarian. I'm almost afraid to post the link as a refresher seeing as her very last post is a picture of me on my first birthday, and yes, I'm holding a doll. Bite me. I'll never forgive my mother for sending her that.
From Leslie:
I never thought I’d have to do this, but I need help. Massive expenses this month have wiped out what was left of our savings. We were counting on the sale of dad’s apartment to ease the financial strain, but now I have to get guardianship in order to sell it. It’s going to cost $4500, I’m overdrawn $300, and I don’t get paid until the 20th. I’m tapped out on payday loans which will take most of my next paycheck.
I need help. This is humiliating.
Let's help her out, folks. She's a proud woman and I know it kills her to have to ask for help, but we could all use a helping hand from time to time and in the past she's always been the first one to step up to help others.
I'll post her paypal link below. Be advised you don't have to have a paypal account to shoot her a few bucks, you can do it using a bank or debit card.
If you don't want to use paypal, if you'll write her a check made out to Leslie Appling and send it to me, I'll forward it along right away.
DONATE HERE via paypal.
For checks and money orders, please make them out to Leslie Appling and send them to:

Thank you. I appreciate it and I know she will too.
Thanks for posting this, Ken. Funny thing, I was thinking of Angel just the other day. Sending a check to your addy tomorrow (mail has already run here) with best wishes and prayers for all.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bobo. I'll get it in the mail to her as soon as I get it.
DeleteWe just sent her a few gas tanks worth. We NEVER donate, we're geezers living frugally on SS. BUT she is an amazing woman with a special family. To say that she's been through some HARD times, would be putting it mildly. Shit, I've been mooching off of Kenny for 8 or 9 years and feeling without helping out, feel guilty about it. She's a strong proud woman, it must be crazy pressure for her to ask for help. Help if ya can.
ReplyDeleteHard times is right but she keeps plugging right along.
ReplyDeleteI miss Angels blog terribly. I cried like a baby when her daughter passed.
ReplyDeleteSteve in KY
You just miss her talking trash about me.
DeleteI think we all shed a tear that day.
Yes sir.
DeleteI hate pay pal, but I bit the bullet for this. We've gotten her up to $1700. Steve
ReplyDeleteDone and done, brother. Check's on the way. Send luvs.
ReplyDeleteTight right now, the widow of a friend who passed last year of cancer needed a grand to make the rent and Joe Biden's economy is killing my 401K and other accounts.
ReplyDeleteBut after New Year's I'll see what I can do. Perhaps you can repost this next month.
I will repost, but take care of you and yours, partner. Thank you, though.
DeleteI actually went to her old blog just awhile ago, posted a Hello! just for old times sake. I sent a bit, and it is already over goal. That tells me that her goal was too low. A strong woman always needs someone to lean on from time to time. She is never far from my mind.
ReplyDeleteShe needs $4500 but is only asking for $2000. Maybe that's all she needs to keep her head above water, I don't know.
DeleteWell, since I had not heard of her in ages despite tough times glad still with this world.
ReplyDeleteI will write out a check tonight as I think about it(where are stamps dammit!)and get it in tomorrows snail mail, your doing good work!
I reactivated my Paypal account that the bastards REFUSE to close, just for her.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Angel.
Ken- is this the lady that lived in Panhandle, TX?
ReplyDeleteYup, the one and the same.
DeleteI threw a little her way. What the hell, I lost $$ last month and I will again this month.
ReplyDeleteAnybody need a car moved to a different part of the country or have a less than tractor trailer load?
Angel's going to be blown away. It's 9pm here on the Left Coast and she's already over $3K.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there's going to be the checks sent to Ken, many of which may not get to him until Tuesday.
This is going to be fun.
Miss her blogging but glad to help out. Merry Christmas to all !
ReplyDeleteDone and done. Glad to help.
ReplyDeleteYou can expect a letter from Buddha.
ReplyDeleteDon’t do PayPal but just checked the link. Two thumbs up to a great group of people here
Check the mail!
ReplyDelete$4,035 as of right now. Elmo’s right, this is gonna be fun! Wish we could see her expression.
ReplyDeleteShe's talking about shutting it down because she feels guilty she got as much as she did. I asked her to let it keep going because any time there's legal work to be done, costs are always more expensive than you originally thought.
DeletePoint One - If she shuts it down now, it wouldn't be fair to people who might want to contribute now, even knowing how much she's already received.
DeletePoint Two - What about the people who have already mailed checks? I didn't send her one contingent on her not making her $2000 goal. I sent her a check because I wanted to help.
I hope she keeps it going. Like you say, there's no telling what her expenses might be before things get settled.
Guilt is a totally man-made emotion, Angel has nothing to feel guilty about. While it may be “More Blessed to give than receive” how can there be blessings if there are no recipients?
DeleteI kicked a little too; I'm celebrating not having to deal with my ex this holiday season, and this is my last day as a 60-something.
ReplyDeleteBesides, I've had my back to the wall before-- unexpectedly unemployed, two sons in college and $300 to my name and in those ancient times, there was no way to send up a flare for help.
Don't do PP, so I'll get something out to you tomorrow. So sorry to hear that, and yes, BTDT too. It sucks!
ReplyDeleteLoved Angel going down the slide bumping her head side to side on the edge.
ReplyDeleteHeading to the post office. I had a feeling something like this would happen so I held some year end donation money back. It came from our tithe. Who better to help than an Angel.
