Tennessee lawmaker wants handgun carry permits for cities like Nashville, Memphis

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A Tennessee lawmaker is calling for handgun carry permits in the state's most populous cities.

Last year, Governor Bill Lee and the state legislature passed a permitless carry law for those 21 years of age or older as well as those 18 years of age or older who are active military.

Yeah, right. So permitless carry would be legal all over the State except those biggest cities?
Like the guy in the video says, you could be perfectly legal in any other part of the State but if you stop for gas in Nashville and a cop happens to notice your gun is printing under your shirt, you could be arrested?
Shit, Nashville and Memphis are the two places in Tennessee where you most definitely want to be armed.

  2. As usual, disarm the law abiding while the lawless do what they want. Wait, does that mean that "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."?

  4. I have the same problem going to the USPS office or library. I have to weigh the options do I leave the hand gun in the vehicle and have it stolen, leave it in my home gun safe and getting shot because I was unarmed or carrying it and risk a confrontation with the local law.

    1. So here's my question about USPS and post office, banks etc. May be different in different states. Here in Georgia If a place of business says no guns allowed, you are not breaking the law by carrying, but asked to leave, you must or then you're trespassing. Does this same rule apply to USPS (federal building), banks (federally regulated building) or ALL places of business?

    2. I have the same problem. And, of course, the consequences of getting caught with a weapon inside the post office is a federal felony.

    3. rayvet - State law has nothing to do with it. Possession of a firearm in the post office is a Federal felony, period. Not only that but possession of a firearm in the post office PARKING LOT is also a Federal felony unless the post office is located in a strip mall. That means you can't even leave it in your car in the parking lot while you go inside to conduct your business.

As far as banks go, more than once I've walked into a bank with my gun in full view and not a single eyebrow was raised. I guess that all depends on your State as well as the region. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten away with it in Nashville.

  5. This rings similar to what I've seen in the old western shows where there's not firearms allowed in the city (like the movie Tombstone) except for the law. Kind of going backward in time I see.

  6. I actually broke down several years and got myself a permit, but only because I was travelling out of state a lot for work at the time. It was just after the Ferguson episode, and I didn't want to be caught up in the middle of a riot while travelling without a gun, but I didn't want to risk getting pulled over for a traffic violation and end up in jail for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

  7. Shall Not Be Used Infringed is perfectly clear. Why do people have trouble understanding it!

  8. The town I live in ,Avon CO, there is no mail delivery, if you want mail you have to use a post office box. About 15 years ago we had a guy sue USPS to be allowed to carry in the Post Office since you had to go there. It went all the way to the Supreme Court and it came out that it's actually even illegal to have it in your car in the Post Office parking lot. They said that law is legal.

    1. Rest assured, that whatever is done by the Tennessee Legislature to fix the problem will fuck it up even worse. I've never seen any other stat legislature that has so much trouble passing a law and getting it right on the first try.

    1. But isn't Beale Street a Gun-Free Zone?

I live in rural Shelby County and don't set foot outside my house without a pistol on my hip.
I carry one everywhere I go, but when I go to Memphis, I carry two.
