WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. (AP) — Thirteen bison were killed or had to be euthanized after their herd was struck by a semi-truck involved in an accident with two other vehicles on a dark Montana highway just outside Yellowstone National Park, authorities said Friday.
My dear departed pappy was driving a commercial box truck in western MT one night in a snow storm when he almost rear ended a bison running the same direction he was driving. Snow was over ten feet deep on each side of the road so he had to follow the bison until a break in the snowbank appeared and the bison made his exit.
ReplyDeleteI guess them bison didn't get the word about putting a reflective triangle on their tails.
ReplyDeleteI thought the buffalo knew to cross at the deer crossing signs.

ReplyDeleteI had a highway design project in Alaska about 25 years ago. 13 miles straight, a slight curve and another 13 miles straight. DOT told me exactly where they wanted the bison crossing sign because that was exactly where the bison crossed for some reason.
ReplyDeleteDuring design, there was a newspaper article about a bison hit. A guy was driving his injured buddy to the nearest hospital, just haul assing down that highway. They hit a bison. They died. The bison got up and left. Sad deal.
