Rent a chicken? For HOW much?

HOUSTON - The cost of eggs is going up at grocery stores, and you may have entertained the idea of having your own in your backyard. Well, now might be your chance!

Rent The Chicken offers Texas residents the opportunity to raise their own chickens and farm their own eggs.

According to their website, starting at about $535, eligible customers can rent chickens for up to six months, depending on the availability.

Or you can look online or in your local smut sheet for somebody that's giving away a free dog run to use as a coop, buy a couple sheets of plywood to roof it and build a henhouse with, then go to a nearby hatchery or feed store and buy a couple almost ready to lay pullets that will be yours to keep for under 20 bucks a pop.

  1. And a warning to customers: Don't kill the chicken that lays the Golden Egg.

  2. On the "news" this morning they were opining about the huge uptick of egg smuggling across the Southern border. I had no idea it was a crime. Which of course makes me want to participate. I remember smuggling cigarettes from NC to Florida in the 60's, for a huge profit.

  3. Karen at the HOA is twitching & moaning about your solution already. A "free dog run" slapped together eye-sore?

    2. They are not pets, they are support ducks.
