And a look at today's Coast Guard:

Director Stuart Calcote’s High-Definition camera crew spent twelve days aboard the Mohawk as it sailed on a course from Key West, Florida, to Roosevelt Roads Naval Base in Puerto Rico. Every aspect of the crew’s life and work on board the Mohawk was documented. From early morning revelry to taps at night, from high above the bridge to the depths of the engine room, this program follows the lives of the U.S.S. Mohawk’s officers and crew as they guard the shores of America.

  5. Yeah, I remember hearing revelry in the morning. Usually from still-drunk sailors. Reveille, OTOH....

  7. I have a friend from work, who was enlisted in the Coast Guard. He was a short fellow, but scrappy. Most of the work that they did was drug containment on the east and southern coast. Towards the end of his enlistment of hist time, but he did say that some of those they intercepted were real assholes. But that most of them would know that they would be out to ply their trade before they continued the messaged from their hidden places. Mostly they never did figure how they ate so well.

  8. One thing about living on the coast is the seriously good search and rescue, and emergency medical people. Lots of hunky life savers get 'er done 24/7/365... guys who can get an IV in you on a boat being pitched by those huge waves... and, no kidding, they make you feel like precious cargo, and not a great big old drag when they're doing it.

    1. Damn, dude, clicked your name on accident and this popped up:

"Does anyone really believe Obama will relinquish the presidency next January?"

Might be time to update the top headline to something about Dimentia Joe or Emperor Poopypants or the next president McCarthy or something...
