ATF report looks at the origin of crime guns

A new report from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is shedding light on where weapons are coming from.

While the ATF director trumpeted the analysis by saying “information is power,” it’s important to note that, by law, the agency is only allowed to trace firearms used in crimes which can lead to a blind spot in a nation with more guns than people.

But the report helps to understand how guns are arriving at crime scenes.

Well, at least they're not blaming Kentucky and Tennessee any more

  1. Waiting for the breakthrough results finding that the source of guns used in crimes are the manufacturers of said guns.

  2. This is coming out to bolster several proposed laws to punish law-abiding gun owners who've been the victim of crime. If you've had a gun stolen, they want to prosecute the gun owner for not properly locking it up. Or if you don't report it quickly enough, another crime. Yet another tactic in the war on gun owners.

  4. they used to blame "lax va. gun laws" for new york crime. govna mcdonald proved it was organized n.y. gangs raiding gun shops providing most of them. the shops still get hit way too often here. its usually the 13 year old gang bangers they send b/c they know they won't do life like an adult. another study showed a large number of guns coming from car break-ins so our illustrious demwits tried to ban leaving one in a vehicle, even when entering a prohibited carry location. the ol' catch 22. idiots, idiots as far as you can see.

  5. Strangely, they never seem to ask how the CRIMINAL arrives at the crime scene.

  6. Here in Western NC we get a fair number of gun thefts from unlocked vehicles. That might have been OK 50 years ago.Sadly in the 21st century there's lots of honest folks with legal firearms here, but little common sense.

  7. Chicago politicians have been blaming illegal guns on Indiana for decades. It's a lie that's been told so many times it's accepted as fact.
