Bozrah Connecticut Egg Farm Fire: What You Should Know

At 1 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023, a horrific fire broke out in one of Hillandale Farm’s 50′ x 600′ chicken coops.

Sounds like it was probably a nasty place run by nasty people.

  1. the best eggs I can remember where the ones we had at grandma's. she used to let her chickens run thru her garden. a small one, like half a acre in size.
really it was huge. only plants they where kept away from was the tomato's and red peppers
seems like after they started turning red, the chickens would peck them and they rot.
kind of funny when people started talking about free range chicken/eggs, I always thought
it was the way everyone had them.
anyway, that place sounds bad. at least grandma's coop was clean. I never seen that brand
anyway in stores. I buy our eggs from the locals.

  2. Final conclusion: The fire was caused by some chickens smoking in their nests.

  3. That farm supplies eggs to the grocery chain where I shop using store name branding. I also think that the grocery chain buys their culls (chickens that have past their prime for egg laying and are killed and sold for meat consumption) as some of the chicken meat that I purchase is as tough as shoe leather.

  4. "Sounds like it was probably a nasty place run by nasty people." Yeah. Do a little research on the DeCoster name in the egg production business and you'll be looking at your own birds with new appreciation.

Decoster was the first employer in Maine to bring in alien workers way back in the seventies.
