California drivers could be charged more for having larger vehicles

California could begin charging weight-based registration fees for heavier passenger vehicles under a bill that’s making its way through the state legislature.

*****

It'll never pass when they realize that electric passenger cars are damned near as heavy as a truck. A quick google search shows that a 2022 Model 3 Tesla weighs in at 3,648 to 4,250 lbs while a 2022 F-150 Crew Cab comes in at 4,021 to 5,740 lbs.
Unless of course they make EVs exempt or give them a huge discount, which I wouldn't put past them.

  1. Mississippi had that system 50+ years ago. Depending on weight, you had an A, B, C or D tag. If you had a Caddy in Hinds Co., it'd be 25D12345, 25 being the county #.

  2. Maybe they'll inflate the tires and spaces in nooks and crannies of the Electronic vehicles with Helium to lighten the load.

    I have a Silverado.
Her registration is $50 more than mine.

  4. Need to pay for those illegal alien health care benefits somehow. Sure aren't putting the money into roads.

  5. Oh this will pass. The criminals running Kali have yet to see a tax they didn't want to implement. This will generate more "tax revenue" for them to waste on bullshit spending programs that somehow never die.
