Netflix password-sharing crackdown details released (in case you care)

Additional information about Netflix’s efforts to restrict members from sharing passwords outside their households has come to light.

The "Sharing your Netflix account" pages on the streaming giant’s Help Center for Costa Rica, Chile and Peru on Wednesday said "anyone in your household (those who live with you at your primary location)" can use a Netflix account.

  1. It's fascinating to watch a giant company that literally changed the way we consume media self-destruct like this.

  2. Canceled my subscription to them years ago. Did you know, you can see almost an entire new movie on youtube, just by watching the previews, and listening to the reviews?

  3. I re-upped my Amazon Prime yesterday. Even with a $20 price increase it still works out to less than $7 CAD a month, and they don't care if different locations are logged in and watching stuff, even at the same time, and I can also order things from Amazon which I still do sometimes (like ordering batteries that ship for free instead of me getting dinged $40+ for freight.)

Netflix wants $8 per month just to add a second IP.

I'll be trying to talk my brother into just cancelling when I see him on Saturday. I know he's already been thinking about it, on account of the fact that there hasn't been anything new worth watching on Netflix in quite a while.

I really wish Netflix the worst. I wonder if they realize how many people pay for their service entirely because they can watch wherever they want. They just might find out...this is removing one of their core selling points.

  4. I dropped Amazon P because we just weren't watching much on that network, but the biggest surprise to me is Peacock! They have a ton of shit to select from and most of it is pretty good. Second in line would be Hulu, and then Netflix. With just those, plus the freebies, it's more than you could possibly watch.
Also, if you have a library card you're probably already a member at Kanopy, and they have much to offer.
