    1. Be that as it may, he's a very talented operator.
I worked with a guy like that. He never showed off but the things he could do with a heel boom log loader were flat out amazing.

    2. I walked away from a maintenance job because of a**holes like that. Getting told I was incompetent because the machinery kept breaking so fast meant I wasn't fixing it right.

    1. The trick is to not let the top of the bath go molten. Keep feeding metal so that it never has to drop into the bath.
I think that is an induction furnace. I ran those all the time, and even rusty scrap can cause that explosion, given the right conditions. Including getting the metal too hot. We would tap from the furnace at 3100F or so. But then we transferred it to a vessel to blow the carbon down to spec. High carbon steel is much cheaper than low carbon steel, so we took the carbon down to meet the customers demands.
The vessel did not have any means of keeping the metal hot, other than exothermic reactions, with all of the elements in the steel. So aluminum and silicon came out first, along with Carbon. But chrome, nickel, copper, etc also came out, and they got into the slag. After the Carbon was low enough, we needed to get the desirable elements back, by stirring with added aluminum and silicon, which replaced the elements in the slag.
It was all done mathematically, using algebra. Eventually we got it programmed into a computer, but for at least 15 years, we did it manually. Here is a link to what the process came from, called a Bessemer process.

    2. Just a drop of moisture too. At a aluminum plant near me a kid on a fork lift stuck damp aluminum cylinders into a furnace. Last thing he ever did. I think he killed five others that day. I heard the explosion and ran outside. I saw the roof coming back down that was over the furnace. I poured a lot of lead in my day on cast iron pipe. Ya always left the ladle laying over the lead pot so it was dry.

  5. #3 is a good reason to not smile for your drivers license photo. Or maybe a good reason TOO smile, so the AI's don't recognize you?

Whichever, you'll now have a decision of great import to make the next time you go in to renew! Of course, it's likely that most of our overlord's facial recognition data comes from facebook, not the DL bureau.

    1. That is WAY too much "1984" to suit me.
And I'd ride along with #10 anytime.

  6. #2, #3, #4 what is going on? I don't want into any event that requires a "face recognition check!"
#10 I'd like to get to know her.
    Thanks, Kenny.

    4. It's a cockpit mounted camera, for Pete's sake! She's in an aircraft, watch her hair. Besides, if you'll take a couple seconds to check, you'll find videos of her doing the same thing on youtube.
