City Of Newark Humiliated In 'Sister City' Scam

The city of Newark, New Jersey fell victim to a humiliating scam in which its mayor signed a "sister city" agreement with a nonexistent Hindu nation called "The United States of Kailasa."

Kailasa exists only as an elaborate website created by a fugitive who's been on the lam from Indian authorities since 2019 after being charged with rape, reports CBS New York. However, in a January 12 ceremony, Mayor Ras Baraka signed a cultural and trade deal with the contrived country.

  1. How fucking lazy and stupid do you have to be, that as an elected official you'll endorse a country you never heard of, and couldn't be bothered to google.
Should all resign in abject shame, but unfortunately stupidity is praised these days.

    1. Per the article, dozens of cities "fell" for the scam. The few mentioned are run by democrats. I'm pretty sure all of them have democrat mayors/city councils. Lazy and stupid are two of the primary requirements for democrats.

  6. Years ago, some group sent a message to congressional offices asking about our relations with 'Freedonia' (the fictional country from the Marx Brothers' movie Duck Soup). They got back boiler plate responses along the lines, "We continue to foster good relations with this important developing nation . . . blah blah . . . yata yata."

  7. Plop a blank map of the world down on a table and you'd find that large numbers of US people could not even label the continents, let alone the countries.

Skools be teeching degeneracies and soshul just us'es now, not geography.

  10. Fooled but not humiliated. Humiliation requires feelings of shame. At best they were embarrassed for the length of the local news cycle.

  11. I'm willing to bet Kailasa doesn't have an extradition treaty with anybody.

  12. The Sister City idea has always been a scam, even if it involves real cities. It’s just a way for municipal officials to go on international junkets. The city I am staying at here in China boasted in their city hall of having over thirty sister cities all over the world.
