  1. No 8 is a fail in absolute terms but she's clearly strong so I say a good effort foiled by the pole being a bit slippery.

  3. #9 - Is the rock being thrown in the air and then cracking the ice upon impact?

    1. Tamped explosion. The rock has enough mass to direct the force down into the ice rather than into the air. The shockwave and crystalline structure of ice does the rest.

  4. It is simply the shock wave from the explosion that is absorbed by the rock and then released into the ice. The rock doesn't move.

    1. Starker here, I don't think the rock is absorbing & then releasing. There is a long delay, which is why US68 thought the rock was launched. I'm pretty sure that it is the sound / pressure wave traveling through the ice and when it reflects back, breaks the ice.

    3. It's a Red Panda, also known as a Firefox. Some people keep them as pets even though it's not really a good idea. They've never been domesticated and get pretty mean if they feel threatened.

    1. The first time I saw one of these things, I was on vacation in Florida with my wife. The thing was only half full, but the half that were on it were having the time of their lives. They would pedal about 100 yards, then stop and drink for awhile, and then start the whole thing over again.
While we didn't try to ride on it, I can see where it would be great fun, for a bunch of your buddies from high school, to get together a couple of years later, for a mini reunion, and ride on one of those things, to a minor league baseball game. And then have it reserved for after the game, to take back to where they started, either to get into their cars and go home, or to a hotel, to continue the party, and then not leave till the next morning.
Of course, after I left high school, I immediately started working in a foundry, then got married at age 19. I didn't have much time to party with my buddies because I had to work and watch my young kids. But I became a very young grandpa, with me now at the age of 62 having 3 grandkids, with the oldest one a year away from being a teenager.
Looking back at my life, I would not change a thing, because I got the children that I did, all 3 biological ones fantastic, and the 2 adopted ones being a joy as well. While I don't think that we earn our good lives by the suffering that we must all endure, it does seem like it works out that way. I guess that we just are meant to live our lives through both pleasure and pain. And it is up to us how we handle both. By learning to handle adversity with humility and forbearance, it makes it so that when we are faced with joy, as most of us often are, we experience it so much more gracefully, and it gives us greater joy than we otherwise would. We all must learn that we have to simply live our lives with the best joy that we can muster up. That gives us the best lives that we could hope to have.
Or, like they say, we could not know sunshine, if we didn't experience rain. Or happiness if we never knew pain. That is enough, but you get the idea. The Bible tells us that God wants to give his children good gifts. We just have to learn to be on the lookout for those good gifts. They are always coming, we just need to be aware of aware have our eyes open for good things.

  10. #5: These things are used to get around local drinking/driving laws. I can't remember the exact loophole, but this is what the "driver" of one of these things in San Diego told me.

  11. #3 There's an uncle off to the right motioning for the kid to hit the guy on the bench. Either that, or the guy on the bench is the uncle and Dad (maybe aunt or Mom) is off to the side.
