It's an optical illusion. The central red pillar appears to be moving up and sometimes down, despite that obviously not being impossible. The black disk that's being moved up and down is a fancy nut, and the central pillar is essentially a fancy piece of threaded rod.
The red pillar is all twisty and shit to make the illusion more convincing. That's also why it's a different color.
If you look closely, you'll also see that the black plastic is finely textured, a classic sign of having been 3D printed. There's LOTS of really cool stuff you can print.
The red part is spinning as he moves the other piece up and down. Do not know what to call it but it fits around the other in such a way that causes it to turn. A close up without a hand in the way would make it clear.
When the black “nut” is moved by hand it cannot turn and so the red “spindle” must turn. When the nut is allowed to fall it turns and the spindle does not.
#3 is the stupidest table design I've ever seen, and that's saying something. Flat-out impossible to clean. Obviously the designer is someone who doesn't have kids AND was an only child.
#2 is freakin' COOL though. I love all the cool stuff the 3D printer community has come up with.
#3 - I'd love to see a video of the construction of that table. Not that I am capable of doing the same, but watching craftsmen at work is thoroughly satisfying.
#8 - I was never any good at etch-a-sketch, but i can type 120wpm+.
#7: That's a gimble alcohol stove. They've been on boats ferrever!
Why alcohol? Propane and Coleman fuel vapors will end up as an explosive mixture in the bilge; that space between the bottom of the boat and the deck. Alcohol just dilutes into whatever water is down there...
Ok #8 the etch-a-sketch is fricking awesome. I don't know how many hours I wasted as a kid playing with one and never made anything look good
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is #2 ?
ReplyDeleteA time waster.....

I can type "more than 120 wpm" also, just takes me a lot longer.
