CHICAGO — Law enforcement across the country, including in the Chicago area, are working to combat a dangerous trend of criminals using small devices that turn a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic weapon.
Although machine-gun conversion devices (MCDs) go by a handful of names, one of the most common types, is known as a ‘Glock switch,’ but despite its name, it isn’t made by the manufacturer.
Several years ago someone approached me about making those. I told him "No thank you".
ReplyDeleteLater on someone came in with what I found out to be a "solvent trap" that wanted some holes drilled in it, but wouldn't leave it with me, expecting me to drop everything and do the job for ten bucks instead of twenty per hole. I was just as glad no to have gotten involved with that too.
ATF trying to frame you.
DeleteIf Chicago was serious about the problem, they would erect some "Glock switch free zone" signs to counter the "free Glock switch zones."
ReplyDeleteThese gangbangers get caught with these devices all the time, none are doing fed time for it. Anyone else in possession of an NFA item illegally it’s definitely prison time. Go figure.
ReplyDelete"Easily convertible." BATF now going to demand couple 'o million Glocks be modified to prevent this?
ReplyDeleteNot like they are that awfully hard to make, if one were to be willing to do the Federal Time when caught.
ReplyDeletePretty simple devices, really. I've seen a working one up close and I don't think they'd be that hard to make.
I don't think they are useful except to spray bullets around though, but then again, I'm not a gangbanger from the South Side of Chicago.
Sanders admitted to detectives, according to the proffer, he got the gun from Indiana and said he knows how to get the switch for $20 or $25 from the street.
ReplyDeleteAin't capitalism wonderful. I know, we'll just make them illegal like drugs, that'll fix it.
The internet is full of greasegun and stein plans that can be built with a drill press, bench vice, and basic hand tools. The biggest issue is supplying ammo to an automatic pistol/machine gun.
ReplyDeleteThe WWII STEN gun was made to be easy and cheap to make. Plans were dropped over France showing how to make one from exhust pipe, block and sheet steel, ans rewound bedsprings, with only a drill and files.
ReplyDeleteBu the end of the War, the per unit price was under $2.00 in then-current money.

And I agree with the poster above. Only White folk get charged for possessing Class 3 stuff illegally. Look at Chicago.
