Inmate charged with murder after allegedly punching pregnant medical worker in stomach, killing fetus

Fort Worth, Texas — Inmate Cheri Akil faces a murder charge after punching a pregnant medical worker's stomach, causing her to lose the baby, the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said.

CBS Texas' Annie Gimbel and Caroline Vandergriff report that the alleged assault happened on April 12 at John Peter Smith Hospital. Akil, 39, had been arrested two days before for credit card or debit card abuse.

  1. You mean that’s NOT how they do it at abortion clinics? No mug shot. Yup.

  2. So, explain to me again how the killing a medical worker's unborn baby is homicide, but aborting an identical unborn is legal? Why is one considered a living human being and the other a disposable inconvenience?

    1. Abortion in Texas where it happened is not legal.

This is terrible. I'm so sorry for the mom and the baby. I hope she has the support she needs.

    1. What's wrong with which people? Everybody here is sympathetic to the poor woman.

    2. Ken, maybe I'm wrong? Ragnar and Anon 11:34 are making points about abortion, which doesn't seem sympathetic to me. YMMV

It takes a heck of a single hit in the exactly wrong place, or multiple blows to kill a child in utero. We wouldn't survive as a species if we were inherently fragile. I just cringe at what this lady went through.

    3. They're making points about abortion to show the irony of the situation: It's a baby if mom wants it to be; otherwise it's just a bunch of cells.

  4. How can a pregnant woman be permitted to work such a job.
