It depends on who spins it

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Following the stabbing death of Bob Lee, many tech industry executives have taken to social media to say that violent crime in San Francisco is horrific and the streets are unsafe. But is there any truth to that?

*****

What they don't see are the number of crimes that aren't reported because it just doesn't do any good.

Crime in San Francisco was off the hook back in the 1980s when I first started going to the Bay Area, mostly for concerts and shit. I'd go to hear The Jerry Garcia Band sing about love and peace with a 1911 tucked into my waistband for that 5 block walk back to my truck. There was no fucking way I was going to walk those 5 blocks after midnight through the Tenderloin unarmed.

  1. If you needed that 1911, it would have been another unsolved homicide.

  2. You'll know SF has really gone over the edge when the Fruits start abandoning the Tenderloin in droves.

  3. Pretty sure I just read Whole Foods out there decided to close due to employee safety concerns. If they're willing to close in that area, where I'd expect that to be their target demographic of shoppers, it must be pretty bad.
