At $250 plus an optional subscription, it’s more expensive than a standard dash cam but also has some advantages.
*
But here’s the thing: Unless you subscribe to the optional $6 dollar a month or $60 dollar a year cellular plan, your videos are locked to the device. There’s no way to download them, even on Wi-Fi.
Also, clips won’t go to the cloud unless you pay.
And AMAZON owns Ring and is likely sharing EVERYTHING with the NSA/FBI.
ReplyDeleteThe big advantage here is that the recording is harder for miscreants to delete if they impound your car.
ReplyDeleteThe Thing is, it's hooked up to your ODBC connector, which ostensibly allows it to record evrything your car is doing. Crash is a 55mph zone? You were doing 60. I can see the insurance cartels slavering over this already.
ReplyDeleteMoney, money, money makes the world go round. How the fuck did we ever survive before this digital shit was invented?
ReplyDeleteI have a dash board cam. It sticks to the window by rear view mirror. With all the illegals flooding the border, it gives me a little peace of mind for the insurance fraud where people put their car in reverse and hit you. It records to a mini SD card. It is on a 10 hour loop. If I do have something happen, I just have to remember to pull the power in a reasonable amount of time. It has a camera for the back but does not work at this time (cable?) I have not had to save a video in the year I have had it. Texas heat has not been a problem. I have the ring door bell and do like that.
ReplyDeleteWhy buy a device to prove maybe I deserve a ticket?
ReplyDeletePay to feed the surveillance data beast?
Costs too much.
All Ring products are a scam for subscriptions. There are plenty of other products that do the same thing and store locally or remotely for free.
ReplyDeleteAnd then insurance companies will introduce a discount for opting in (like they did with paperless billing).
ReplyDeleteAfter a few years, you will get charged extra for not participating (like paperless billing).
Nobody ever thinks about the gps tracking data...
A front and back facing cam with a large memory card is all you need, and they are a lot cheaper and no monthly fee.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Most dont have gps for speed.
DeleteSaved me from knee grow trying to claim I ran into her, after going into the median trying to pass her - I had cruise control set, chillin when this bitch got impatient
DeleteBEST FUKING WORDS I'VE EVER SAID:
Would you like to see what happened officer?
Oh, you have video, dash cam?
