Commentary: Bill Lee’s Red Flag Law Proposal Helps the Progressive Movement Nationally

Governor Bill Lee called on the Tennessee Legislature to pass a “Red Flag” law on April 11, 2023 just shortly after three Tennessee Democrat House members made a similar call on the House floor and led a disruptive gun control rally with a bullhorn directly from the front podium on the House floor. The Democrat House members’ gun control rally brought national attention, unfavorable attention, to Tennessee and the Tennessee House of Representatives.

    1. Sadly the only one who will have their guns taken will be some middle class conservative dude who's bitchy ex want's to "punish" him.

    2. Like my ex did when she filed a restraining order against me during our divorce, knowing I would have to surrender my guns. Thankfully the judge that heard my case saw through her bullshit and refused to grant it.

As long as it's done LeeEEeegallly, I'm sure he'll thank them for their service.

Let us not shun (nor blanket party) those that say, "He has a right to his own decisions".

  3. I would favor a Red Flag law that would include a public defender and 27/7 protective detail
for the target from the moment of first contact thru return of weapons of exhaustion of appeals

Make it expensive enough that TPTB have to be sweating blood first.

    A Diabolic Gun Control Strategy

My good friend Michael Hoffman recently wrote an outstanding thesis on the subject of the growing efforts of Democrats (and some Republicans) to push the anti-Second Amendment envelope as far as possible. I borrowed the title of Michael’s thesis for the title of this column.

For instance, right now Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee is calling a special session of the legislature—probably convening in July—to take up a Red Flag gun confiscation bill. But Lee’s proposal goes further than any previous Red Flag law: It actually includes many prescription drugs that a person is taking as a cause to confiscate their guns.

The proposed Tennessee Red Flag gun confiscation bill is a MONSTER!

Here is a short list of some of the medical disorders that could disqualify a Tennessee citizen from exercising their right to keep and bear arms, depending on the medication they take:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (which targets veterans, of course)
    Anorexia
    Premenstrual Syndrome
    Eating Disorders
    Nerve Pain
    Male Sexual Problems
    Insomnia
    Postpartum Depression
    Fibromyalgia
    Hypochondria
    Chronic Headaches
    Attention Deficit Disorder
    Sleep Disorders
    Personality Disorders
    Obesity

Under Governor Lee’s proposed gun confiscation bill, laws protecting medical privacy, such as HIPAA and others, would be suspended, and physicians or pharmacists would be required by law to report the use of medications used to treat the above disorders to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation—which could trigger the confiscation of the person’s firearms.

I hope the people of Tennessee are paying attention, because if they don’t rise up en masse against this communist gun confiscation grab, the Second Amendment will die a methodical death of attrition in The Volunteer State. And that would force every other State in the country to have to deal with this monstrosity.

  5. Michigan and our Democrat government has passed most every gun control law they can think of at the moment. If they come up with this abomination, that would likely make a lot of people have to stop treating their medical conditions, in order to keep their God given right to self defense, without the HIPPA laws forcing them to divulge their medical status to the stasi that has become our government.
I know that with a number of my health conditions, and the medications that are used to treat them, both on label and off label, I would likely be determined to be disqualified by the Republican Governor Lee.
I remember at least 15 years ago, people saying to try and be the grey man. Now it is coming out why that was so important. Who knew that even your medical treatment would be involved?
