NRA Shows Up Late & Screws ‘Freedom To Carry’ Bill for NC Gun Owners

Progress on House Bill 189, now named “Freedom to Carry NC,” stalled on Wednesday after the NRA reportedly came out in opposition to the bill. NRA lobbyist DJ Spiker, who had been utterly absent from the debate over permitless concealed carry (and rarely seen at the legislature), showed up at the Judiciary 2 Committee meeting, which passed HB 189 on Tuesday, and began complaining about the bill’s contents.

  1. But, but! If they're doing the wrong thing, for the right reeEEeeasons, we NEED to thank (and tip) them! For their service!

  3. kind of funny how the NRA is always talking about gun rights when they help write the damn bill /laws that take those very rights away from us. hell, it was the NRA that help write the gun control act of 1934. at that time, the NRA thought we didn't need to own pistols either.
but in 1968, mom did her homework and really read everything she could about it.
she even sent dad to buy 2 pistols and ammo. if they want to ban them, we need to get some before they do. one thing you can count on is them selling us out. and them begging
for more money to "fight" the laws. yeah, right. read the history on them assholes
and as far as Dwayne goes, he can go fuck himself. he spends more on his suits than lawsuits,

  5. I have been watching things with the NRA and just renewed for another year. I won't give a cent more, until WLP and company are gone and things are fixed. But we really need a strong NRA, as they are respected by the Congress, the more members they have.
There was a time when they did great things. I am hopeful that it will happen again, which is why I renewed for another year. I give my money to other groups, including the Great Lakes Gun Rights, here in Michigan.
It is a personal choice for everyone, and not everyone thinks like I do. But just don't condemn me for my choice. We all are on the same side.

    1. How differently would the NRA be acting if they were controlled opposition?

    3. I don't think that the NRA is worth a damn right now. I am just not willing to give up on an organization that has existed for 150 years, and has done a lot of good during that time, including being a great part of our winning WWII by helping to train riflemen, without at least trying to see if there is anything that can be done.
The NRA failed us here in Michigan, big time, during the mid-terms. Any money donated to them right now goes straight to the WLP defense fund. So no, not a cent to them. But I am hoping that things will become better one day. That calls for patience.

    4. Name ONE thing the NRA hjas done to help gun rights. Ever.
I'll tell you what they have done over the last 90 years and that's been to cave in and helped craft EVERY piece of anti-gun legislation there is.

    5. It has occurred to me that the reason the gun-grabbers are always screaming about the NRA is that they want to deflect attention away from the really effective groups like Gun Owners of America, Second Amendment Foundation, and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

  6. No support for the NRA coming from me. GOA is a far better choice.

  7. The NRA calls my cell phone every morning now. Probably just want to say hi, I guess.

  8. I wouldn't piss on the NRA if they were on fire. How is that the membership doesn't get to vote for the president of the organization. They stack the deck worse than the Demonrats stuff ballot boxes. Wayne LaPierre is a thief just as bad or worse than Bribem.

Not to mention their support for all of the gun laws in this country that are contrary to the Constitution, especially 1934 and 1968.

The NRA won't ever be a trustworthy organization, working for the good of the membership, as long as LaPierre is in control.

  9. Five years after I quit the NRA I attended a Public Safety Committee hearing in Sacramento as they were about to pass several new gun laws. The local NRA lobbyist spoke in obligatory terms and when he was finished speaking he gave a little wave to the 'lawmakers' as if to say "See you at lunch. I'm buying".
That was the year California passed sixteen new gun laws. Thanks, NRA.

  15. The NRA carries our range insurance.
So all club members must be NRA.
Became a life member back in the "90's"
Haven't given a cent since then.

  18. NRA was instrumental in helping to defeat the proposed handgun ban in Arlington Heights IL in 1985. Grass roots effort but with support. Recall at the time this was a juggernaut movement among antigunner idealogs. Thus I continue to support them and expect them to continue to play a positive role.
