An anticipated study from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is expected to show that drivers should pay up if they want to enter certain freeways. Officials said such a program could help ease up traffic in the heavily congested region.

Sure, it'll ease congestion on those freeways by jam-packing all the city streets in the area as drivers find alternate routes to avoid the toll. Where in the fuck did those bureaucrats think those vehicles were going to go?

Riiiight, it'll ease congestion. The Commonwealth of Virginia built at great cost and time express toll roads near DC and I haven't seen any lessening on traffic volume or congestion.
ReplyDeleteHa! The only way to lessen traffic congestion in VA is to cut about $2 trillion out of the Fed Gov budget. Even that may not be enough.

The reason they were called freeways is because they were not tollways. California gave us the word and California will take it away (but insist that we keep using it.)

The railroad to nowhere from nowhere. They couldn't acquire rights of way into LA or San Francisco, so they dropped the plans to go where there were passengers, and are just building it through the farmlands in the central valley. And they still have cost overruns of several hundred percent!
DeleteIf it's ever finished, someone wanting to go from the LA area to the Bay area will be able to drive out into the country for at least a couple of hours, park the car, stand in line for TSA security theater to get on a train and be quickly whisked to where they can stand in line for a rental car, then drive for hours. The trip time will be about the same as driving directly, but train tickets and a car rental will be added to the cost.
Or they can drive to an airport much closer to their home and fly to one much closer to their destination; same downsides to the trip but somewhat faster.
