Public Pride Display Removed After Tennessee Mayor Speaks Out

In his capacity as a private citizen, the mayor of the town of Athens spoke out against a “pride month” display at the town’s library, eventually leading to the display being taken down.

Athens Mayor Steven Sherlin and Vice Mayor Larry Eaton demanded that the display at the E.G. Fisher Library be taken down at a Tuesday city council, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

The display reportedly contained books called “Queer Heroes” and “Ready When You Are.”

  1. The people of Athens don't need to celebrate queer 'heroes' when they have plenty of their own home-grown heroes to celebrate.
I refer to the Battle of Athens, 1946. We could use a few million heroes just like them today.

    1. That is right Elmo. I bet the heroes of that battle would have something to say about the library "decorations" and books if they were alive today.
The story is a great one and has been put on the back burner in modern history. It truly is "An American Story" which was the title of the 1992 movie by the same name. The movie is a little cheesy at times, but is worth the watch. The main lesson to be learned is the importance of The Second Amendment. The movie deals with this point of view in the last fifteen minutes or so. There is plenty of good information out there regarding the story. The movie, which is based on facts, is overall fairly accurate.
