#1 - Boeing/McDonnel Douglas C-17 Globemaster III. Boeing did such a great job managing the program when they took over McDonnel Douglas that they closed the production plant in Long Beach where it was built rather than go look for some new customers.
California, Long Beach, and OSHA were imposing so many stupid rules trying to close Micky D down before T1 ever flew. Not to mention TQMS 2 week shutdown and everyone resubmitting bids for their previous jobs. It was fucking clown world out there. The government acquisition office with congress was investigating bad manufacturing, serious cost over runs, and late delivery on everything. They were not paying their subs, and lots of first articles failed and had to be rebid. Total shitshow. The only thing to come out of this program that carried on, was the blueprint of how to screw the taxpayer on the F35.
There was a fascinating article in the Atlantic some years back that talked about how Boeing was so successful it drove MacD under acquired it. Then the highly successful Boeing Co execs put MacD's buffoons in charge, adopted all of MacD's corporate strategies, moved the execs to Chicongo and left the engineers back at Boeing Field where they weren't allowed to get on with the job of making planes while the Execs also took apart Boeing Space and Military divisions and ruined them.
#1 - Looks like Schoonover Airfield at Fort Hunter Liggett in California. Summer exercises bring C-17s and C-130s out to act as casualty evacuation players in the medical exercises. Fun times out there. -Barry

DeleteHow did Lockheed end up with the F35 if Boeing bought McDD?
