You gotta be shittin' me

Michigan's House of Representatives has passed a hate speech bill, known as HB 4474, which criminalizes causing someone to feel threatened by words, including the misusing of their pronouns, with the possibility of a hefty fine or even jail time.

The bill introduces hate crime penalties for causing someone to 'feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened,' with 'sexual orientation' and 'gender identity or expression' included as protected classes.

Offenders could face up to five years in prison for such a felony offense or a $10,000 fine.

  1. Could be a lot of dead cops that try to arrest someone for this bullshit.

  2. And the Supreme Court just ruled : The First Amendment prohibits Colorado from forcing a website designer to create expressive designs speaking messages with which the designer disagrees.

This law won't last long the first time it is challenged.

    1. No fucking kidding. Just another example of our two-tier justice system. Just like this one:

  4. So let I get this straight--and I mean "straight." If I, as a heterosexual male, am confronted by a militant feminist--whether male, female or anything-in-between--and made to "feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened," I can make a complaint to the authorities and they will be compelled to enforce this "law" by arresting said offender? Right? If so, I'm all in! Unintended consequences anyone?

  7. I am in Michigan and we have a complete Democrats controlled government. The laws that they have forced through since they took over are like a liberal wet dream.
From anti gun laws to anti free speech rules, the Dems never met a freedom that they didn't want to infringe.
Our governor, the Empress of Lansing, was threatened with impeachment and so raised money to fight it. When it didn't happen, she was able to be rolled into her reelection campaign fund, for the second term. So those people who wanted to get her out for her misdeeds of her first term actually funded her second term.
Thankfully in Michigan, we have term limits. Something that the Democrats hate and got a slight change made on the midterm ballot to give them a strategic advantage. Is it any wonder why so many people here hate Democrats?

  8. My first thought was to ask if this rule would apply to black people referring to whites in a derogatory fashion, or any kind of white discrimination that made the object feel 'threatened'... I somehow suspect not.

    1. No, if you'll look again at the second paragraph, it mentions "protected classes".

  9. Didn't SCOTUS just rule the exact opposite of this yesterday?

  10. So, when so many on the left "feel unsafe" for any number of inane reasons, up to and including anyone referencing the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, the display of an American flag or God forbid, a Gadsden flag, and when so many of these fools labor under the misapprehension that they have a right to "feel safe", (hint: you don't) how far can the State of Michigan, and then every state with a leftist cabal at the helm, be from making anything they just plain don't like a felony?

...you undercook fish? Directly to jail...

  12. This law will get shot down by the SCOTUS. But that process could take years.
In the meantime the assclowns running Michigan will use the law to abuse and
persecute anyone they don't like. Then when smacked down, they change a few
words in the law, pass it again and start over. The problem is zero accountabilty
for the conduct of the people willfully violating the Constitution and our Rights.
Till that problem is dealt with they can run amok all they want.

    1. You mean like when NY got shot down on "justifiable need" for a CCW permit, they came back with "demonstrate good moral character" plus a bunch of new "no carry" places?

  13. I could go to prison for five years because SOMEBODY ELSE chooses to get upset?

That's about the dumbest idea I've heard about all week.

  14. I feel "terrorized, frightened, and threatened" when someone forces me to use inaccurate language to describe someone in a way that is contrary to the way that I perceive and understand that person to be. I am female, and I openly "express" my "gender identity" - does that make me sufficiently a member of a "protected class" to have my rights enforced, or do I have to be a part of the LGBTQ rainbow a well? The Supreme Court will shoot this down, but not before lives have been ruined - and, as Dan observed, they will then make cosmetic changes to the law and start the witch-burnings all over again.

    1. And let's not forget that's going to take YEARS before it gets to the Supreme Court.
With a little luck, it'll get shut down by one of the other courts before it gets that far.
