  2. #5. Makes my heart smile, with so much joy.

  3. #5 I am surprised that may windmills are working. Usually half are out of order.

    1. Large scale wind has never made sense, even in theory. Tidal generators, as ridiculous as they are, are more practical.

    2. You should've seen the storm we had last night. The wind went from a dead flat calm to close to 60mph in the time it took me to walk 35 yards to my chicken coop and back. I've got branches and shit everywhere, and one small tree down.

    3. Yep. Those storms are headed our way but will probably weaken a bit. We have had a few strong ones the last 2 weeks.

  4. #2 isn't quite the loaded dog, as per the Henry Lawson short story, but it's trying.

    #10 is a good dog.

  6. #6 is amazingly crazy and awesome. Likely, amazingly crazy expensive too.

  7. #3 We had a puppy who did that. He tried it two or three times, but we always arrested him before he could really get going. One morning breakfast was on the table and the room was empty, and he brought the whole business down on himself. The results scared him to death, and he couldn't get out of there fast enough, and he never tried that again!

    #4 Not me!

    #5 Cheers me right up.

    #10 Who's a good dog?

  8. If you see the Wind Farm that has been there for decades on I580 in Altamont Pass in California most Wind Mills are not working. This is in the path of north-south bird flight and it kills millions of birds per year.

    1. I think the big problem with those turbines is the wind is just too strong there.

    2. Training in the Kahukus on Oahu's North Shore around the turn of the century there were skeletons of windmills from the 80s and 90s.

We were told not to go anywhere near them, I guess the head unit fell off one and killed someone, who knows.

Looked it up and they put in a dozen new ones after tipping down the old ones, guess they figure they have a handle on salty winds blowing into every orifice, corrosion is a thing of the past and grease seals won't be compromised by the Menehune anymore.

    3. Altamont Pass is directly downwind of the best breeding ground and densest nesting populations of Golden Eagles in the world. The biggest threat to their numbers are the wind turbines at Altamont Pass. Yet the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service grants the owners exemptions from the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in the birds they kill.

Everything having to do with anything 'green' is based on lies and is rooted in being a scam.

    4. I passed through there in 1987, and a significant number of the turbines were already shut down. They got government subsidies to build them, not to maintain them. Maintenance must have been so difficult that the electricity generated wouldn't pay for it even though the turbines were already bought and paid for.

-Now it won't let me post with my Google account. 2 minutes ago, that was working.

  9. #2 Good time for that post. Be careful over the fourth. Do not have your dog loose outside if you are throwing fire crackers. Knew a guy that didn't do that and threw a cherry bomb. Nuf said.

  11. I came through there during fire season in 98. There was a fire on the north side of 580 that I watched blow over to the south side. Those are some strong winds there.

  12. #5 - the windmill - looks fake. First, the windmill is spinning much faster than the ones behind it. Second, the debris should have been blown downwind but they fall straight down.

  13. Perhaps a gear or clutch that regulates the speed has blown. Hence it is spinning faster than the others and ultimately headed for it's doom. Yes Kenny, you deserve a break. Have a blast.

  14. Anon @ 1150:
It LOOKS LIKE the wind is blowing DIRECTLY at the tower, and the pieces appear to land DOWNWIND behind it. As for running faster, duh, it lost it's governing ability, which is why it decintegrated. Observant, and yet, not. IMHO.

    1. As long as the steering mechanism is working, when the front end of the turbine is directly facing you, the wind is from you towards the turbine.

As for running faster, when the wind is too strong the turbine has to either throttle back somehow or stop entirely. When that fails, it's on the way to self-destruction.
