Right after I bought a 4 speaker Quad system I bought this album. First song I played was Smoke on the Water. The sound started in one corner of the room then went all the way around the room. I was in heaven!
Almost the quintessential Deep Purple - exceeded only by Made in Japan. Funny thing - I was at the big-chain grocery a half-hour ago, and My Woman from Tokyo came on the Muzak. Geez - not that I mind - but it made me feel, well, as old as I am, I guess. - Mr. Mayo
I still love Smoke on the Water and it is deservedly a classic, but more and more the song I play from this album is Pictures of Home. Great lyrics and imagery.
Loved this album in college.

I heard the Doors "light my fire" Muzak version shopping the other day.

ReplyDeleteHad that on 8-track.
