Ultimately, 65% of Staten Island residents voted to secede, through the approval of a new city charter making Staten Island an independent city, but implementation was blocked in the State Assembly.

DeleteStaten Island still smells funny. Must be from the proximity to Noo Joisy. Fun fact - Staten Island has a remnant of the bedrock from when it was joined to the African continent. If you are travelling north towards the Verazanno narrows Bridge, it will be off on your right... look for a big exposure of a green colored rock. It is "Staten Island serpentinite in the I-278 Road Cut"
