Pasadena police received calls of the break-in around 1:47 p.m. at the Jewels on Lake store on the 400 block of Lake Avenue.
According to the shop’s owner, Sam Babikian, three masked men wearing gloves entered the shop and pepper sprayed him during the destructive robbery.
How does that redistribution feel now?
ReplyDeleteHe had a restricted entry. Not an airlock, but a locked door. Got hit as he was showing someone out. OK, an airlock would have been better. And a remote control airlock even more so. One can argue he should be armed, but that's a personal choice and judgement - and after this, he may make a different one. Seems to me the gun comment is gratuitously callous, though - he was taking precautions, and the goblins found a way past. Given that he was incapacitated almost instantly, even a gun ON HIS PERSON would likely not have helped, and in fact might have gotten him killed.
ReplyDeleteHis real error is having a store in CA. The inventory is nothing exceptional for a small jeweler.
"He mustn't have a gun or he might be hurt." Spoken like a true liberal. You go, girl.
DeleteI’m putting my money on this being a “Business has been slow, so let’s fake a robbery and collect on insurance while splitting the the loot with my buddies who helped make this happen” sort of thing. Even here in Wisconsin, I’ve been to high-end jewelry stores where there are always armed security guards on staff. Nicely dressed, of course. Can’t see someone in CA having that much inventory yet no way to really protect it.
ReplyDeleteI've sold raw gold to a jewelry shop in San Francisco and with me being the only customer in there, there were 3 armed (I assumed) guards keeping a close eye on me - and this was back in the '80s!
DeleteI had to make an appointment, then when I got there I had to show ID through the door before they unlocked it. Treated me real nice once I was inside, though.
