Makes me wonder how anyone can go through life without a dog. We had a dog until I was about five. Then no dogs. Once I had my own home I got a dog. Since about 1971 I don't think I've been a total of year without one. The time without were grieving periods. I have had up to three at the same time. I like em better than people.
Same. We had dogs when I was a kid, but they were sporadic, depending on where Dad was stationed. Since I've gotten out of the army I've had at least one dog, the only exceptions being when I lost one.
We are Blessed with both two dogs AND a house pig! To watch Ripley (Golden) and Klaus (PBP) interact as friends is truly amazing. Then to watch Rebel (rescue) join in... Life has it's wonderful moments.
We always had dogs when I was growing up but I didn't while I was single out in the world. I wanted one when I got married but my wife didn't so we didn't have a dog until I said our son needed to grow up with a dog. We got a GSD mix who lived 18 years. After he died, we decided not to get another one, but after a couple of years, our son had a Chihuahua who wasn't getting along with the small children and the big dogs. We took him and when he died after about six years at age 13, my wife said that we needed a dog. So we got a GSD mix rescue who has been a challenge, but now, after only seven years, she's mellowed out, mostly. She doesn't do any of that cute stuff that you see in the videos. She just guards, herds and wants to be loved.
My parents would not let me have a dog. My sister 9 years my junior got one first time she asked. The damn dog ate the seat on my motorcycle which didnt alleviate the drama. Whateve. I had dogs ever since I left home. 61 years old next month and a dog will bury me. Perhaps literally. Yes, life w/o a dog is no life indeed.

ReplyDeleteMy kids all grew up with a dog around, without a dog the amount of spilled food under the dining room table was startling! We got another one.
ReplyDeleteI lost my long-time companion Grizz the Berner last week. One of the coolest dogs in the world. I'm still glacing behind me.
