Labor Day weekend turned into quite the labor for crews with Comcast and Xfinity.
Comcast said vandals cut fiber optics lines, cutting off internet to some 15,000 customers in the Citrus Heights and Carmichael area. Technician crews worked Saturday night into Sunday to fix the damage from vandals.
It's a test run. They're seeing how easy it is to knock out communications. Cut the enemy's communications lines is a combat tactic. Probably some of the military age chinese "migrants" that have come here.
Remember this: They aren't refugees. You don't leave China without permission.
If you're going to cut the fibers, for gods sake, tie a 1/4" rope to the end, attach the other end to your trailer hitch, and just drive away. Also, if the innerduct is pointing upwards, you should pour it full of runny cement.
This is still a foolishly "high trust" society. Water, electric, internet - too damned easy to take out for anyone with half a brain and some intrinsic evil.
Most security systems are based on internet connection, cut the fiber and you cut the security. I am lucky all mine has cell system and battery back up. Now all I have to do is worry about the Feds turning it off as they plant evidence.
Most people don't understand how really fragile fiberoptic lines are, anyone can take out communication to thousands very quickly and easily.

ReplyDeleteAll those in-ground vaults with covers on them along the road in suburbia, or under manholes or sidewalk covers in cities.
