Eh, it was worth a shot

TRUMBULL, CT - A Connecticut man who found a bag containing nearly $5,000 in cash outside a bank and claimed "finders-keepers" had a criminal charge against him dropped after he gave the money back.

Robert Withington, 57, went to Bridgeport Superior Court for a scheduled court hearing, and a state prosecutor informed Withington's lawyer the felony larceny charge was being dropped.

  1. I think he could have beaten the larceny charge.

  2. Apparently the wrong person found the bag. The two delivering it probably had someone else in mind.

  3. He should have been allowed to keep the money. Consider it a stupidity tax.

  4. Find some way to sue them for, oh say $5000. (actually more to include lawyer and court costs)

  5. He took somebody else's money. Not an anonymous grocery bag on a country lane, stuffed with random bills with no trace of the owner, but an official bank bag with the deposit slip inside next to the cash. In the bank parking lot. As soon as he looked at it, he knew who the money belonged to. Keeping it instead of returning it to its rightful owner, is plain old theft. Anyone who tries to pretend otherwise is a low-down snake. Like Withington.

    1. If the IRS mistakingly sends you $10 more in refund are you going to send it back? I didn't think so.

  7. A major Law firm decided to have a minority woman as the next partner. They narrowed it down to a final three, and asked the same question to each - if you were walking across the street and found a bag containing three million in cash, what would you do?
The Hispanic woman said, "I would place the money in a trust account and vigorously try to find the rightful owner."
The Black woman said, "I would put the money into a yielding Bond, and advertise in the smallest print for the rightful owner, and we retain the profits from the Bond."
The Asian woman said, "Finders keepers. We split the money among the Partnership."
    Who was hired?

  8. And thats Mr. Low Down Dirty Snake to you Suh!.....official bank bag....lol. of course you are correct, the Christian thing to do is try to return the property to the rightful owner. On the other hand....the rightful owner was negligently careless....do they deserve a lesson in being mindful? What if the finder took it to be a blessing from God because now he could pay his rent ? Think the town would've given him a reward or recognition for the return? Point being, maybe low down snake is a little harsh. Can we agree on mangy cur maybe?
