It's a common thing on dump trucks. Supposed to turn off the PTO when you lower the box so it can't happen and drivers forget. If they're lucky they just burn up the pump and don't raise the box.
Generally there’s a lever behind the cab that activates the hydraulics. It has a chain with a ring on the end you hang over the handle to keep it from getting jarred into to lifting position. But Juan just doesn’t GAF. Or else he’d look in his mirrors nice in awhile.
The explanation is simple. This is yet another example of the very common "Head Up Ass, No Window in Stomach" syndrome. There is no known cure.
Look at it this way. Most of these dump trucks have windows in the back of the cab which allows a driver to turn his head slightly to the right from the driver's seat to see if his bed is raised or lowered. And all trucks have two mirrors that would reveal the same 'raised bed' condition that is capable of doing thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages if not corrected before entering a public roadway. And then there's the fact that many dump trucks have a big red 'raised bed indicator light' on the dash, which a driver can see if he bothers to look at it.
Let's face it. Most truck drivers aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed.
You're more than welcome, Friend. These videos show the main reason I never owned more than one truck. More than one truck meant having a hired driver. No thanks.
Occasionally I'd have a guy I knew mention that if I ever wanted to take time off, they'd be glad to fill in for me. I was always polite and would smile and tell them I'd remember their kind offer if the time came. But with most of them I was thinking "I wouldn't let you drive my pickup".
The ENG trucks used by TV stations for live shots, the ones with the big mast that goes up 20' or more--after many accidents where they drove off with the masts up, the industry started putting an ignition interlocks that kill the engine if the mast is not parked in the down position. Maybe they need something like that on dump trucks.
It happens. I used to drive dump truck and did it once pulling out of a dump site. Had my head up my ass I guess. Took out a powerline and fried the house next door to the dumpsite stereo, tv, and microwave. I did learn and didn't do it again.
As an Outside Plant Construction Lineman for Ma Bell, I made a whole bunch of double overtime $ on teh stoopid like #10...and folks that didn't call before you dig. Good Times
Why is lowering the dump truck back such a problem, endless videos of destruction caused by this.
ReplyDeleteWondered the same thing. Must be default up with hydraulic failure or something.
DeleteHydros can leak and it creeps up
DeleteToo busy talking to the GF or wife on the phone for the 50th time.

No hydraulic system I ever had failed in that way. Without exception they all failed down. Fork lifts, HF antennas, cranes, gun mounts,…

So then you don’t drive away until it’s fully down. How easy is that.

Thank you. I was wondering when somebody was going to bring up mirrors.

Delete#9 Retired with 100% job related disability....
ReplyDeleteLooks like the nimrod was disabled before he ever got the job...
Delete#3 Looks like China. Driver made a poor choice; should have flattened the old coot. They've got plenty.
ReplyDelete#4 You couldn't pay me to push that asshole out. Let the cement setup.
ReplyDeleteThe dump up shifts weight to the back of the truck. Better traction depending on terrain. Much fun when they get back on road and forget to lower it.
ReplyDeleteThis entire compilation shows me that the world is full if complete and utter idiots.
ReplyDelete#4 - Is that a self driving Tesla?
ReplyDelete#10 happened just up the street from me a few years ago. No cable for 3 days.

Delete#3, figures it was in China, you'd think with those slanty eyes they would see what's coming from the side.

#6, Been there done that and the walk home sucked.

# 3 - I blame the trucker. He should have plenty on time to stop the truck, climb down from the cab, and smack the shit out of the idiot pedestrian.
ReplyDelete#2 has a good horse.
ReplyDelete#5 She's used to a different kind of facial
ReplyDeleteYou're assuming the age of her partner. ;-)
Delete#8: Apparently her first rodeo.
ReplyDeleteGravel truck drivers - a species uniquely all their own. Right up there with crane operators. Anyone who has dealt with them knows.
ReplyDelete#3 needed a proper asskicking as soon as the driver could climb out of the cab and deliver it.
