In this segment of American Rifleman TV, we examine the history of the deer rifle from its origins in the era of black powder to the modern-day rifles enjoyed by enthusiasts across the United States.
No. I used one on springbok, oryx and kudu in Namibia and it was great. Kid used it for springbok, oryx, warthog and wildebeest - did just fine. Factory 250 Noslers.
Just about anything will kill them. I've shot Texas whitetails with everything from .223 to .375 H&H. Most kills were .308 or 30-06, overkill for our little deer but effective and no, excessive meat damage was never a problem. Shoot 'em in the shoulder and they go down on the spot. Toss that shoulder because when you can get five in a season you won't miss those shoulders.

Is a Weatherby 338/378 too big to use on deer?

DeleteNot if you like a pink mist...
DeleteGreat weapon. On a deer you won't have to field dress the animal....
