Where bad choices make good stories
The 5th and 6th Marines were awarded the French Forrage after Belleau Wood. It's like a rope worn on the left shoulder. These are the only Marine regiments that can wear it. A very fitting article as it's the Marine Corp birthday today.
Actually I posted it for Veteran's Day. The fact that it's the Marine Corp birthday is just bonus.
I recall reading that a tour in each battalion of the regiment entitled one to permanently wear the "pogey rope".
American commanders mostly suck, it seems.
