DC mayor hands out AirTags so residents can find cars after they are stolen

On Wednesday, Washington, DC mayor Muriel Bowser announced that residents in certain areas of the city will be eligible to receive free "digital tracking tags" in an attempt to address rampant auto theft.

The Apple AirTags will become another tool in the Metropolitan Police Department's arsenal, allegedly allowing officers to trace and recover stolen vehicles.

Now if only there was some guarantee the cops will actually go out and recover the stolen vehicles...

  2. Now if only there was some guarantee the prosecutors will actually press charges and seek jail time for the thieves.

  4. Hilarious. A lot cheaper than "re-funding the police"....

  5. Take a few and surreptitiously place each one on a Police car.

  6. Given the cost of the tags it would be cheaper to just execute the criminals. But then the problem would go away and the mayor wouldnt have anything to campaign on

  7. They will also helpfully record and monitor all of your phone calls, to monitor them against con artists attempting to scam you. All you have to do is sign here...

  8. Buy your own AirTag and only pass the info to the po-po if your rig gets stolen.

  9. They will go find their car and kill whoever they find in it.

  10. Post it under: "Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time"

This scheme just reeks of abuse by both law enforcement and the habitual law breaking communities. (aren't they sometimes one and the same?)
