Now there's a basketball game I wouldn't mind watching

The reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces were the recipients of a unique challenge from nationally syndicated talk radio host Clay Travis who seems to believe that the best women’s basketball team in the U.S. would be hard-pressed to beat a boy’s high school team.

Travis reacted to a putdown from Aces star guard Chelsea Gray who called him a “dumbass” for expressing his opinion that “a good, state championship caliber, high school boys team would smoke the best team in the WNBA,” by giving her a chance to put her money where her mouth is.

On Friday, the Outkick founder took to X, formerly Twitter, in a response to Gray’s insult, offering up one million dollars to the winner of a basketball game between the WNBA champs and a boy’s state high school team of his choosing.

  1. "Bring on your high school boys. We're WNBA, not the "U.S. Women's Soccer Team".

  2. I don't watch pro "sports" on a matter of principle, his idea has merit and I wish them luck. If the WNBA team loses, that leauge finally gets to disappear. What would follow would be challenges from JV teams. It is a slippery slope.

    1. Winning is an understatement. They would mop the floor with them, and they know it, they will never participate in that contest. They will funfer and malign everyone and everything, but they won't stand up to the challenge, you can bet on that.

    2. Women’s sports exist because men are gentlemen.

    3. WNBA isn't going anywhere; that's the vig the NBA has to pay to appease the "feminists" and ESG crowd.

  3. I have watched both, and a good state championship level GIRLS high school basketball team would give most of the WNBA teams a run for their money. Basic fundamentals like open court layups are frequently missed.

  4. My daughter has played HS basketball for years now. So I have been to a lot of HS games. Even a small school boys team would give the "Pro" females a run for their money. HS boys play with a speed and physicality that even grown women can't hope to match.

    1. If its for more than four years, I think that's not much to brag about.

    2. Unless he lives in a state, like Florida, that allows middle schoolers to play varsity if the middle school and highschool are the same campus.

"...FHSAA allows students in sixth through eighth grade to play varsity sports if their middle school is part of the high school. ..."

And that'd actually be *more* impressive than playing the regular four years. Because she was good enough to start varsity ball *in middle school* smartass.

A mediocre highschool boys team could wipe the floor with the best WNBA team. No question.

    3. She goes to a private Christian school and has played on the high school team since 7th grade. But I see you didn't have the guts to sign your name to your slur, Anon at 7:23 pm. Personally, I don't say anything I won't put my name on.

  5. The only female team sports I watch are volleyball and slow-pitch softball. Basketball to me is like monkeys in a playground so I have no interest but in this case I would probably make an exception.. Let's do this...

  7. As the Russian drug prisoner shows, there are likely MANY MEN in the WNBA pretending to be women. It might not be as easy a win as one might think.

  8. I would pit any man’s team against a team of men trying to be women any time. Or even women trying to be men.

The only way this would actually happen is if the boys owed tons of money to bookies.
