DELAND, Fla. - A Florida mom was arrested after allegedly leaving her 7-year-old daughter in the car while she got drunk at a local bar, according to the DeLand Police Department.
Veronica Elliott was charged with child neglect after the incident that unfolded at The Perfect Spot Bar on Flightline Boulevard in DeLand around 3 a.m. Sunday, according to a press release.
Is anyone else bothered by the headlines about heinous neglect by a parent that refer to the heinously neglectful parent as 'mom' or 'dad'? Yeah, it's fewer letters than 'mother' or 'father' and they are trying to emphasize the shock value by reporting that a 'mom' did this terrible thing, not a 'mother' or a 'woman'. Everyone knows that a capable, competent 'mom' does not leave their underaged child in the car at 3 am while she gets her twerk on at the local dive bar. So let's tell it like it is.

As a kid, we were left in the car all the time while mom paid bills. Probably not long enough for her to get drunk and laid though.
ReplyDeleteMother, to daughter while getting out of the car, "you just stay here and keep quiet, honey. Mommy's going go find you a new daddy."
