In the world of survival, communication is as crucial as your firearm and your wits. When the grid goes down, or you’re out in the wild, your fancy smartphone might as well be a brick. That’s where Survival Radios come in – your lifeline in the wilderness and chaos. This guide isn’t just about picking a radio; it’s about choosing a survival tool that keeps you connected when everything else fails.

  1. Minor correction to the article: GMRS is not a "one time license". It must be renewed every 10 years.

I initially got into ham radio 10 years ago as a prepper thing, but I've grown to enjoy it for what it is. I'm equipped for commo on all but the very lowest and extreme highest frequencies (antenna limitations). I've used a correctly proportioned wire suspended in trees to talk around the world on 100 watts. Cool hobby unto itself.

  2. I have a GRMS radio. Don’t want to be a government list.

  3. What happens if your license expires. Can you no longer survive?
