My 40 pound mutt (looks like a redbone coon hound crossed with a boxer) and my wife's tiny little maltie-poo have been going at it like that for years. Mostly the big dog just ignores the little dog, every now and then she gathers him up in her mouth until he settles down.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
