  1. A poem!
    This Be The Verse
    BY PHILIP LARKIN
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

    2. How sharper than a serpent’s tooth
To hear your child make such a fuss.
It isn’t fair—it’s not the truth—
He’s fucked up, yes, but not by us.

  2. I'd like to know more about screwing up other people's kids. Quickly. Like, as I walk by in the store.

  3. Not so much about screwing up a kid but I didn’t care too much for a sister in law. So every gift I gave to their kids was something that made noises that would frustrate their mother.

  7. I simply didn't do all the shit to my kid that I hated being done to me; and he turned out to be an admirable person with a successful career that I'm very proud of.
I have to take at least a little credit for that.
