(WZTV) — A Tennessee woman accused of trying to hire someone to kill the wife of a man she met on Match.com has taken a plea deal.
Melody Sasser, of Knoxville, pleaded guilty in federal court last month to one count of murder for hire. She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
There are some hitman websites, set up as "jokes" available through a simple on-line search, "Hireakiller.io" and "Rentahitman.com." The guy behind renahitman thought it was all some big laugh until he started getting the occasional legitimate requests. I also see that there is a webpage warning that hireakiller is a scam and they they don't actually provide the services advertised. The liars! Both websites funnel requests for services to law enforcement.
Pre-internet days, a roommate had a contract put out on him, over a custody dispute. He liked my shoulder rig, so I picked him up the same thing. Took a while for the undercover cop to be solicited by his ex. She only spent a few months in the county jail. She turned out to not be well wrapped. Major shock for me to answer the door and find her there to pick up the toddler for a family visitation. Thought she was still in lockup. He forgot to update me. Supposed to stay away from the property, and him, and her parents were supposed to pick up the kid. They were sitting in the car. I can see where she came from, sigh...
Living with that situation for months before she was jailed was an interesting situation. Kind of puts the world in a different light.
The cops got involved after she pissed off the 3 Mexicans she hired, and they dropped a dime on her. So, they called him in for a talk about the subject. Told him they couldn't protect him, but they knew he was a gun owner (courtesy of CA gun purchase records), so he should do whatever he thought prudent. (No way to get a carry permit in that county, of course)
People are wretched.
