TURLOCK — A hold-up at a Stanislaus County gun show has police looking for a pair of armed robbers and the 33 handguns they got away with.
The robbery took place in the aftermath of a Stanislaus County Fairgrounds gun show showdown between two armed robbers and a pair of unarmed security guards
I went to the last Great Western in Pamona and the first one in Vegas. That’s a gun show. Been to quite a few since then, but they haven’t been very impressive. Lots of the old guys with the cool shit and knowledge have moved on to that happy hunting ground and all that are left are just in it for the money. Kind of like your current crop of Harley dealers. Yeah, back in the 80's and early 90's, gun shows were largely gun enthusiasts trying to cull their collection a bit and you'd find lots of old and interesting stuff for reasonable prices. Last show I went to, maybe 5 years back, all the tables were just big dealers who run a shop during the week and work shows all weekend. Everything there was new and mostly plastic fantastic. Trying to find anything even slightly different, much less an antique, was a waste of time. And even if you wanted something new, no discounts or bargains. Fuck that, I'll go to the store and save the $10 entry fee to the show.
Back in the 80s/early 90s the wasn’t full internet access. Now every swinging richard can look at and price guns nationwide. There aren’t any smoking deals anymore and any that show up are snapped up by other vendors before the doors open.
At gun shows around here, fully half the vendors and at least a third of the attendees are armed. Yeah, the signs say "no loaded firearms" but that is just for insurance purposes. THe inspection tables are just for those guns being carried in to be sold.
Plus we have uniformed, off duty ARMED cops as security.

ReplyDeleteI remain unimpressed by most of what I experience.
ReplyDeleteI am also not surprised.

Was safer when we could order guns and have them delivered to the house.
ReplyDeleteUnarmed security at a gun show. That makes no sense to me.
ReplyDeleteSomeone please explain the thinking to me.
Insurance. I suspect coverage for armed guards was prohibitively high.
DeleteProbably insurance requirement to have security. But armed violates state, county, ins co regs or policy.
DeleteSo the most absurdly stupidly inane situation is created to have unarmed 'security' at a gun show.
