As Local Opposition to Wind and Solar Projects Grows, Some States Seek to Override Local Decisions

Legislatures in 23 states and the District of Columbia have passed some form of a carbon-free electricity goal, but many of these measures do not address the ancillary costs of making it happen.

Michigan was the latest, passing a law in November 2023 that requires 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040. Within the law’s “clean energy” goals is a provision that aims to stop local communities from impeding the renewable energy projects.

  3. A common tactic is to hold out until the right bribe is offered. That usually works here in Maine.

    1. UPPCO already charges $0.35/kwh.

Part of the reason I moved, besides the whole lack of jobs, no sun in winter and couple hundred inches of snow most winters.

  5. The state of Colorado is trying to take charge of all local zoning rules. This will allow democrats to force things to be built where locals don't want it, like concentration camps for the poor. Just send them to RED counties and before you know it ALL of Colorado is red.

  6. Must I really state this again for these anti-energy folks?

There ain't no such thing as carbon-free electricity, period. Just like "Net Zero". It sounds great, but it is physically impossible to achieve.

  7. So in this case it's the state vs local gov; then down on the border we have the state of TX vs the Federal gov.
Looks to me as if the framework of gov needs an overhaul. More Constitution, less Bullshit lawfare..
