Commentary: Despite the Insistence of the Left, Electric Vehicles are Doomed

In a story that seems to be becoming increasingly common as time goes on, The Western Journal reported this week about a Canadian EV owner experiencing some massive sticker shock over the cost of replacing the damaged battery in his electric vehicle.

Now, those of us who have always driven internal combustion engine (ICE) cars have at one time or another been faced with big repair bills for some of those vehicles. I can remember spending $4,000 on a new radiator for a 10-year-old Infiniti QX 50 with 220,000 miles on it that I just couldn’t bear to part with several years back. I did finally retire that wonderful vehicle when faced with the prospect of a $6,000 tag for a rebuilt transmission.

A giant gold-plated "I fucking TOLD you so" remains poised for use.

  2. The sticker shock doesn't compare with the cost of replacing your home, after the lithium battery fire, and as more of these incidents come out, people are rethinking EV vehicles.

  3. From an engineering and environmental standpoint, EVs make no friggin' sense. Most EV proponents only look at the 'middle' part of EVs, meaning the 'plusses' while minimizing the minuses. If one looks at the end-to-end of EVs, they make no sense.

One EV uses the same mineral resources - lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper, neodymium - as eight hybrids. EVs require a complete upgrade to the electrical infrastructure from generation, transmission, and termination (chargers), something that is NOT going to happen. Hybrids require no infrastructure upgrades of any kind. Neither do ICE vehicles.

Repair costs are many times that of our regular vehicles and you can't take them to your local mechanic for repairs.

Insurers have hiked premiums on EVs and in some cases will not cover EVs.

And then there's battery packs, between the cost of replacing them when the time comes (a $10,000 to $25,000+ cost) as well as their propensity to ignite after being damaged or misused. They become nothing more than rolling incendiary devices with a faulty pin or timer.

It's one thing if people actually wanted them without being 'incentivized' to buy them. But when the feddle gummint tells you that you HAVE to buy them that's a different story.

  5. I've been seeing a lot of "Anti EV" articles online from places that aren't normally anti EV. Tide is changing

  6. EVs will never be a viable alternative to ICE vehicles until a room temperature super conductor is discovered.

  7. As unrealistic the EV requirement is, I think cities will stick to it to the very end. They dont want you driving. Only public transportation will do.

  9. Which 5-7 year old vehicle would you rather buy: ICE or EV? Which would you trust more? Yep, me too.
