Fleeing California: Moving company says exodus continued in 2023

If you simply follow the moving trucks, it appears more people moved out of California than moved to the Golden State again last year.

U-Haul has released a list of the Top Growth States of 2023, and for the fourth year in a row, California showed the largest net loss of one-way movers.

  1. I've just been reading the book Stealing Speed which is about the pioneers of two stroke racing motorcycles who were based in East Germany. It covers the post war period when the GDR government were forced to close all the borders because so many people were leaving. Funny how socialism always has that effect. I don't suppose that California will have the option of building a wall and shooting anyone who tries to leave.

  2. Does that include the new arrivals who don't show up in counts? The undocumented kind?

  3. Let us not be celebration victory too soon. Those that leave are being replaced by illegals crossing the border for free California medical care and other handouts. Incidentally, many of the high cost of living "economic" leavers are still staunch Liberal Democrats who will infest Red states.

  4. Many years ago I traveled out west and one of the stops was Bozeman Montana. It was great. It's my understanding now that so many libs moved there to escape cali that it has a new nickname which escapes my memory. Those libs are like a cancer and we shouldn't be happy they're leaving the area they ruined and spreading it throughout the country. -sammy

  6. Not to worry, Cali. Once those reparations checks start going out, there will be a flood of new residents rushing in.

  7. SC has the highest % of U-Haul Rentals. NC has 11MM residents, we have 6MM. Both states are getting more red.
