It’s not news that children have always enjoyed rebelling against their parents. It’s hardwired in kids, maybe as an evolutionary defense mechanism so that even helicopter parents are inspired to help baby pack and get the hell out at 18.
Each of the last few generations has developed its own quirky spin on the perennial teenage impulse to rebel. Millennials rebelled by delaying “adulting” as long as they could—dressing like four-year-olds as they approached 40 in cargo shorts and superhero t-shirts, chomping edibles, and channeling repressed biological instincts into attachment-parenting their fur babies.

I can attest to the fact the little "zoomer" assholes revolt me.
ReplyDeleteParenting fail. Pure and simple.
ReplyDeleteYou cannot seriously consider blacks and most non-Whites of any age to be part of the defined generational cohorts. Members of "oppressed minority groups" do not identify as boomers, X, Millennials, etc. This Peachy Keenan rant about Zoomers refers strictly to White kids.
ReplyDeleteBlacks are only concerned about themselves and their place on the victim totem pole. To a lesser extent, hispanics are the same. Climate change? The environment? They couldn't care any less than they do. And they don't collect "fur babies".
Nobody questions whether a black single mother with 4 keeds from 4 different sperm donors is "liberal" or "conservative". She's just...black.
"Rebellion in the form of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll has been part of the American teenage experience since those nutty hippie boomers invented it." Not even close! Take a look at the Roaring 20s, or the those who fought the American Civil War and after looked a lot like the 1960/70s. My Grandfather, 1905, had some real stories (and photos!) about his teens. I agree though that the Gen Zers are revolting
ReplyDeleteHey, hold on there! I'm 66 and wear cargo shorts and tennis shoes! Of course, I've only dressed this way since I retired 3 years ago and I left hometown USA when I was 17 to enlist, but that's another story.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you, cargo shorts are my go to for about 11 months of the year. Have been for a very long time.

What was that biblical admonishment? Oh yeah, spare the rod, spoil the child. Funny how that still applies today.
ReplyDelete"Now they’re supporting literal Hamas? What a hilarious plot twist!"
ReplyDeleteThe only word that Millenial, or Renter, missed was 'random'.
These kids need a damn good wake up call but what that should be I don't know
ReplyDeleteMaybe.....and I'm just throwing this out....
ReplyDeleteInstead of a bunch of ivy League/ political/ "journalistic" boomers going on a "those damn kids these days" rant (and sounding JUST LIKE their parents) about why "those damn kids®" won't participate in their system, maybe they should ask "why should they?".
The current system in in steep decline, due largely to the excessive debt based spending of the boomer politicians, and the bullshit forever wars, again of the boomer politicians and their MIC owners. The DIE and the feelings based bullshit was brought in by my generation though (X).
The result is a society full of kids that have been raised to believe that physical work is icky, that feelings matter over everything, that their bullshit degree in "intersectional feminist slam poetry" or some other crap has value (beyond the unpayable debt), and that whitey is the problem in just about every way. I don't blame them for not participating.
Them: "The Zoomers are revolting!" Me: "Yes, I know, they stink on ice."
ReplyDeleteIt’s good to be the king…..
DeleteThe zoomers are not just revolting. They're disgusting, too
ReplyDeleteInterviewer: "You're on a desert island, and you have a pistol with one bullet. In front of you stand an enemy and a traitor. What do you do?"
ReplyDeleteGreatest Generation, Silent Generation, Gen-X, Millennials, Gen-Z, and Gen-Alpha: "I shoot the traitor, then beat my enemy to death with the pistol."
Boomer generation that invented 'never trust anyone over 30': "I turn around and shoot my grandchild."
Except you forgot about the part about the younger generations not having a pistol because they had them outlawed for 'our own good'.
