I have never been a big fan of full auto on a M-16. I learned to maximize the 3 round burst. Fist shot hit the beltline, the second in the sternum, and the third in the head due to barrel rise. But then again, hearts and minds on semi auto.
When I was in the Cal. Army Guard, '84,5,6, I swapped out a carbine buffer for the rifle one while on AT, annual training. It sped up the rate of fire very satisfyingly. No 3 round burst BS for the Guard, just safe, semi and full. We had GM Hydra-Matic and H&R Viet Nam era weapons.
Cool! Mahalo
ReplyDeleteGood stuff. Wonder how it worked.

ReplyDeleteFull auto: inaccurate, burns up the barrel and you run out of ammo real quick.
ReplyDeleteThe way I understand it: Single shot is for killing. Auto is for cover fire - spraying bullets to keep their heads down.
