Meritocracy Must Not Be Our Goal

What is the opposite of woke? Many people instinctively say meritocracy. If wokeism—and DEI, its institutional application—is about affirmative action and group-based judgments, meritocracy is about individualized judgments.

This misses the core issue.

  1. As I see it "Woke" is a term describing a culture of the Progressive’s narcissistic, neurotic, obsessive, compulsive behavior that dominates these assholes' lives 24/7, 365 . "Mediocracy" is the term used to describe the Conservative culture of independence oriented, individualistic, live & let live lifestyle. Or simply put the "Master & Slave" relationship. I know that sounds ridiculous in the American Constitutional "Everyone's Equal" Republic, but equality is just theory not reality.

  3. When the rubber meets the road, you have to have someone decide. Woke says the person from the most oppressed group gets to decide. Meritocracy says the person who gets things most accomplished gets to decide. The article is short on who decides if not one of those two.

I've worked in places called "meritocracies" (whether they were meritocracies based on the academic definition is another question). No one really had titles. No one was called "decider in chief". If you needed to do something you weren't sure of, you probably knew who to talk to since they had the most "merit" in the area.

Before deciding that "merit" (read capability) is not a reason to base decisions on, we probably should have something more than vague hand-waving as to how something is going to work.

  4. I agree that "meritocracy should not be the goal." The goal is to get things done (and if you're a company, be profitable). Of course, one of the best ways to get things done and be profitable is meritocracy. It's not the goal, just the side effect.
